Ambrose Pirate101

Ever wonder what Ambrose and Gamma may have looked like in Pirate101? LOL

The New Classes!

There are 5 classes so far at the start of Pirate101.
I'll try to explain the best I can about them.

Buccaneer Class:
Buccaneers are sturdy warriors who rely on brute strength to overcome their enemies. They wear the heaviest armor and carry the biggest weapons. What Buccaneers lack in grace or finesse they make up for with raw courage. Withstanding enemy attacks is the key to a Buccaneer's strategy.
One of their powers is called "Blade Storm" which gives them extra power if they drop an enemy in combat. Basically this is the class that will be the tank (who takes all the hits for the team or crew).
They have great defense but are usually very slow in speed. I compare this class to "Knights" in Fire Emblem, they are basically the same thing, big defense and low movement around the board/area.
The Trainer for this class is Mordekai.

Musketeer Class:
Musketeers are expert marksmen who use their mastery of firearms and trick shots to win battles. Musketeers damage their enemies at long range and keep them at a distance with traps and obstacles, denying foes any chance for hand-to-hand combat.
Musketeer Pirates will be the long range attackers in this game. I think its really cool that they have added a new twist to this class though with traps and obstacles. One of the powers that is revealed on the main site is, "The Rain of Mortarshells" - Which blankets an area on the board with explosive traps. The trainer for this Class is Ol' fish eye.

I compare this class to "Archers" on the Fire Emblem games. They have decent movement around the board/area, and are very useful in situations from attacking from a distance. The one downfall they have is when an enemy gets close to them and strikes. Not that fancy in defense. ;)

Privateer Class:
Privateers are born leaders, commanders who can rally their troops to victory through the most desperate of battles. Privateers can recruit more Companions than any other class, and their powers focus on boosting their Companions' capabilities and healing them in the thick of the fight.
Privateer Pirates are basically the healers of Pirate101. Without them, many of the other pirate classes would be in trouble. The reason why they get to recruit more companions than any other class is because they need brute force to help them through the game. The power that is revealed on the main site for them is called "Reinforce Power" - Which heals all of your companions! Very helpful!!
The Trainer for this class is Commodore.
I compare this class to "healers/support" on Fire Emblem.
They are great at keeping the team alive and up for battle, but when push comes to shove, if a enemy gets close enough it could be bad news for them!

The Swashbuckler Class:
Swashbucklers rely on speed and finesse in combat, sneaking up on their foes and striking by surprise, then dodging the enemy's attacks when they finally arrive. They are deadly with a blade, but not nearly as tough as a Buccaneer, sacrificing toughness for damage.
Swashbuckler Pirates are very fast and can most likely critical if that is in this game. :)
They are also very good at dodging incoming attacks. The power for this class that was revealed on the main site is "Dance of steel"- Which lets them attack all the enemys around them at the same time. Very effective! The trainer for this class is a sly fox named Morgan Lafitte.

I compare this class to "Theifs/Assassins" on Fire Emblem. Great Speed, Good chance at critical's hence the word "Deadly" and will most likely be the best class with movement around the board/area in battle.
The cool thing in fire emblem was that Theifs could open locked doors and chests as an ability, I am hoping they add something like this, would be very interesting.

The Witchdoctor Class:
Witchdoctors are masters of the arcane, using the powers of hoodoo to rig the outcome of combat. While weak in a direct fight, Witchdoctors never fight fair - hexes that weaken foes, blasts of fire that strike at range, and summoned spirit allies all turn the odds in a Witchdoctor's favor.
Witchdoctors are the magic class of this game. They are also long distance attackers just like Musketeer's. The power that was revealed on the main site for them was "Mournsong" which allows them to summon spirits to drain health from enemy's on the board/area while in battle. Pretty cool!
Witchdoctor will definatly be my class! The trainer for this class is Madame Vadima.

The class I compare this to on Fire Emblem is the "Mage/Sage" class. They are great at attacking from far and upclose if needed, but also can enchant allies or curse enemies. Very good to have on your team. The only downside with this class is that if an enemy gets close to you, you do not have lots of defense so act fast with your hoodoo hex! ;)

That basically wraps up the talk about the new classes!

You start the game in a jail cell and get asked about how you ended up in it, your answers will determine your class. In Fire Emblem once you got to a certain level, you could change your class to the next teir of it, Im not sure if they will have an extension on these classes but could be a possibility in the future of the game.

Thank you for reading, leave me a comment and tell me what class you are interested in or want to try out for your first pirate when beta opens!!

See you all in the Spiral!

How the battle system in Pirate101 may work

Josef Hall and Todd coleman stated in a recent interview that they derived the battle system for Pirate101 off of the game Shining Force. I also find the battle system to be similiar to the series of Fire Emblem games.
If it is this time of battle system It will be cool to see on how they formatted it to be multiplayer with people around the world.

Interesting News on the Beginning of Pirate101!

On a recent Article over at Gamespot, Todd Coleman and Josef Hall talk about the storyline and battle system a little more as well as the beginning of the game.

Some of the interesting tid bits;

Before, you were on a hero's journey that was very much of a Luke Skywalker 'chosen one' kind of thing, but in the new game there's a bit more of a Han Solo vibe.

Todd Coleman~To achieve that second goal, the team has focused on both thematic elements and gameplay mechanics. The game kicks off with the player in prison, and the initial character generation and class selection (players end up as a Buccaneer, Witchdoctor, Privateer, Swashbuckler, or Musketeer) are performed by answering questions about the character's past. "We needed to explain why your character was a pirate by telling some of the backstory," explains Coleman. "We do this by shaking up the family unit, establishing a tragedy that affected the player's parents, and the subsequent criminal path that this led the character towards. All of this creates a moral backbone for the game. We learned with Wizard that parents need to buy into the morals, and that's especially important when the game is all about pirates." Turning to Star Wars for inspiration again, he explains that "it's ultimately all about fighting 'the man,' like the Stormtroopers and the Empire. Our universe is ultimately good-hearted, so we need oppressors that players can zap with impunity to maintain that morality. In this case we've created a clockwork foe called the Armada that serves as the big bad which you're fighting now, and you've crossed paths with in the past as well. (So the evil person is someone we have crossed paths with in the past?) This Armada is creating a huge mechanical machine, I guess kind of like a Death Star now I come to think of it, that's eating up the world and trying to homogenize everything. The ultimate theme of Pirate101 is freedom and trying to keep individuality alive."

Josef Hall~Whereas Wizard used a card combat game mechanic for all battles, Pirate101 is a fairly complex turn-based affair that draws inspiration from a true classic. "We absolutely loved Shining Force," Coleman and Hall say together, referring to the 1992 Genesis tactical role-playing game by Climax Entertainment. "We wanted something more akin to chess than a card combat game, and we felt that bringing a game like that which we loved and repackaging it for a broader audience was a great way to do this."
Lots of great detail in that article, cant wait to hear more!

Untill then,
